Veteran Legacy Project

About the Project

More than 1500 WW2 veterans are passing away each day. So too are Korean and Viet Nam War veterans at an alarming rate. The Library of Congress created the Veterans History Project to collect the personal war time experiences of these American heroes before they are lost forever. By recording their stories and publishing them in the Library of Congress they can be honored for their sacrifice in perpetuity while at the same time provide a valuable research tool for future generations.

Our Veteran Legacy Project does more than preserve valuable war time heritage in the Library of Congress. We offer a certfication course to train 'StoryKeepers' to do this meaningful work on behalf of veterans. With the help of grants and donations we remunerate certified StoryKeepers to follow a set protocol in compliance with Project StoryKeeper's 'Assignments' which includes proper submission of content to the Library of Congress and the Treasury of Heritage, our online archive and gathering place.

At a time when many families are in need of any income, we offer this opportunity first to veterans and their families for this project.

Our Program Includes

  • Audio recordings of biographical history. (appx 90-minute interview. Questions provided in advance to be chosen by the veteran)
  • Digital scanning of up to 20 photos
  • Proper submission of content to the Library of Congress
  • Publish content in online sharing libraries such as www.LegacyStories.org, Ancestry.com, and preferred websites that make these stories available to the pubic.
  • Facilitate sharing of content with family, friends and related military groups
